FDI Regional Congress at Tehran

The 1st FDI Middle Eastern Regional Congress was held in Tehran, Iran, 14–18 May. Organized in collaboration with the Iranian Dental Association, and alongside the 57th Exhibition and Congress of the association, the congress was the first of a series that will take place over the next three years.

The overarching theme leading the congress called for a ‘Declaration of oral health rights’ which describes efforts in education, prevention and treatment by the Iranian dental community.

“We should view today as turning point for dentistry: regardless of the socio-economic costs of oral disease, oral health is not perceived as important – and we need to change that. Our goal as dentists is to return oral health to its rightful place in medicine in particular and in life in general.”
DR PATRICK HESCOT, FDI PRESIDENT

Featuring world-class speakers, scientists and professionals from Iran and numerous countries around the world, the congress delivered a comprehensive programme. It included some 50 academic panels, 35 scientific workshops, and 100 poster presentations. The exhibition showcased the latest dental equipment, materials and products; allowing participants to discover new technologies and resources needed to provide the best service to their patients.

“This congress has been a milestone for FDI and I believe also for the Iranian Dental Association. I would like to thank them for partnering with FDI in this great venture – and for all the hard work they have put in to ensure its success.”
DR PATRICK HESCOT, FDI PRESIDENT

This is the second time Tehran hosts an FDI congress; having welcomed participants for the Persian Regional Dental Congress in May 2016.
